About the Buckeye Ranch Horse Futurity

The Buckeye Ranch Horse Futurity started in the minds of two brothers, Maynard and Monroe Miller, who envisioned an event that would celebrate ranch horse skills and help others learn fine horsemanship.

In 2024, the Buckeye Ranch Horse Futurity was born in the lab of Maynard’s breeding stable, Pine Acres Stallion Station. This meeting of the minds included Monroe, a respected trainer and colt starter and Jesse Westfall.

Jesse, a well-known Ohio reining trainer, professional judge and experienced showman from nearby Loudonville, joined the team as a show advisor and industry resource. Also an instructor at the Asbury Equestrian Program in Kentucky, Jesse’s wisdom as a showman as well as a teacher has been invaluable.

The Ranch Trail Course

The Fun Day (or Open Class) is designed to give a green rider the feel of performing in a judged class. It’s a low pressure way of getting your feet wet in a show environment, or to season a green horse for later competition.

The Ranch Trail course is designed to demonstrate how broke your horse is by executing various maneuvers, such as lead changes, extended trot, stops and pivots. Obstacles such as bridges, poles, and dragging a roping dummy demonstrate your horse handling skills and tests your horse’s aptitude. Any rider and any breed is welcome to test and be judged by professional judges.

The 3-year old futurity is run over the same course.

The Futurity and Nominated Stallions Program

This program was started in order to incentivize both stallion owners and mare owners to breed fine quality stock horses. Foals by nominated stallions are eligible for cash prizes in the futurity in their 3-year-old year. Breeders of these foals will receive a bonus as well, thus encouraging mare owners to consider these stallions.

Stallion owners receive extra promotion from the Buckeye Ranch Horse Futurity in the auction catalog, promotional mailers, social media and online.

The Ranch Horse Auction

We want our auction to be a source of fine riding horses, but also to be a production market for well-bred young stock – yearlings, weanlings and unstarted young horses sired by our nominated stallions.

That said, the auction accepts riding horses of all breeds, from ponies and drafts to well-bred reining and cowbred quarter horses, Paints and appaloosas.

We hope to have you join us for the entire event!
